African Photo Frame - Hand Cast Recycled Metal, Elephant or Guinea Fowl
Description
A small photo frame hand cast in traditional sand moulds from recycled scrap metal, finished by craftsmen in the Bushveld region of Zimbabwe. Available in an elephant or guinea fowl design, each frame is hand polished and hand finished, so no two are quite identical.
The frame measures 13 x 10cm (5 x 4 inches) and holds a photo of 9 x 7cm (3.5 x 2.75 inches). Working in metal is a newer branch of Zimbabwe's Shona sculpture tradition — artists shape and weld repurposed scrap metal and wire into animal forms that carry the same symbolism as their stone-carved counterparts: elephants for wisdom and strength, birds for freedom.
Made from recycled materials and sold through fair trade, this frame supports local artisans while making a distinctive, eco-conscious gift or a characterful addition to a shelf or desk.
